20 Things To Do for Families Visiting Sydney
A reader question on Facebook recently has thrown up so many great ideas that they deserve their own post for posterity on the blog.
We’re coming to Sydney for a week from Townsville with an 11 year old girl and 10 year old boy.
So far our list has: the zoo, Luna Park, Cockatoo Island, and probably not Wet n’ Wild or Aquariums. What are the other must-dos?’
The replies came in thick and fast. Then I put up a question about where readers like to take visitors to Sydney who come to stay with them. More ideas!

The list sums up what’s just fab about our city, so with no more ado, here’s the list from you experts, the readers of this blog.
- Boat trip around Darling Harbour or the ferry ride to Manly. On Sunday you can get train, ferry and city buses unlimited for $2.50. You can get on and off as often as you like as long as there is at least one child. Just ask for Family Fun Day tickets – Lloyd
- Budget wise you can get a Merlin Pass that is valid for 12 months from $80-110 for adults. It’s great if you will visit again but they do other deals where you get into x amount of attractions for x amount of $$. You can get into Sydney and Manly Aquariums, Madame Tussauds wax museum, Sydney Wildlife Park, Centrepoint Tower and it has other places to get in Illawarra Treetops, Melbourne Aquarium, Mooloolabah Aquarium – Kim
- Centrepoint Tower is pretty good. Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb is epic!! – Abbey
- Kayaking from Manly. Take a picnic for a fantastic day out – Lyndsay
- Royal Botanic Gardens, Mrs Maquaries Chair, Art Gallery of NSW, Museum of Modern Art Family Day, a day at the beach at Bondi/Coogee,/Bronte/Tamarama – do the cliff walk – Christine
- No need to do the Harbour Bridge Climb, even if you just walk across it, its great! Visit Darling Harbour, Bondi to Bronte walk – Shemyla
- Madame Tussauds – Tracey
- With climbing the Bridge, I think you have to be 10, but climbing a pylon is good. I always like a hop on hop off bus for an easy way to explore a city – Kirralee.
- Australian Museum or Maritime Museum – says Ilka
- Visit the Opera House – says Mojgan
- Go to the Blue Mountains, Northern Beaches, sometimes Bondi if they are keen to see it and The Gap – says Julie
- Manly ferry and some or all of the Bondi – Coogee coastal walk – says Holly
- Ferry to Manly. You can take them to the new Barangaroo Park now. Walk around Botanic Gardens, Circular Quay, Opera House, Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, The Rocks. If time permits, Palm Beach, West Head – Charmaine
- Cremorne Point walk, Newtown and Carriageworks Markets, bars in Redfern, Watsons Bay – Paula
- Northern Beaches, the City /the Rocks, Blue Mountains, Berry, Watson’s Bay, Hunter Valley – Maria
- Featherdale Wildlife Park – Amanda
- The Zoo! Giraffes have the perfect view – Jane
- Palm Beach lighthouse and coffee at the Boatshed – Felicity
- Picnics on the Harbour, at Cremorne Point or Blues Point, Neilsen Park or Parsley Bay – me!
- Manly Scenic Walk and now the lovely walk around Narrabeen Lagoon, and my very own personal tour of the Harbour beaches and baths – me again!
