Holidays With Heartbreak – Family Catch Up

Well, it’s a bleary-eyed morning here at Casa Catastrophe.

But thank goodness we have a sunny morning in Sydney at last.

Teen16 flew back into Sydney late last night, and we didn’t all finally get to bed until 1.30am.

He had been with his Dad in Scotland for just 10 days. Our Intn’l Man of Mystery’s dad, the kids’ grandad, is gravely ill, so his usual three and a half weeks at home became two as he and Teen16 flew back to Scotland.

Holidays with heartbreak.

Teen16 played his bagpipes for his grandad, lots of talking was done and family stories told. Sad times, they do bring families together. But this is not really my story to tell.

Yesterday, they left Glasgow and flew to Dubai, then Teen16 was left at his gate and waved goodbye to his Dad..

He flew that long 13-hour flight to Sydney alone and was fine.

“It was no problem’ he said, ‘Passport, bags, customs, I can do that.’

I’m a very proud Mum. He’s a very tired teenager.

There’s been lots of coming and going in this household. Bethany au pair escaped returned to the USA after her year-long working holiday in Australia. She’s now nannying for a family in her upstate NY city.

Paul was home for two too-short weeks.Today he starts his four-week hitch in Kurdistan so we see him next on 29th July. This feels a long haul and I can feel some questions about this FIFO lifestyle forming in my mind.

The little twins, they’re seven, not so little really, are thrilled to be on school holidays and so is Dexbox13. I’m enjoying the change of pace a lot.

Anyway, off to put washing on the line in this lovely winter sunshine.

How was your weekend?

Are you bleary-eyed too this morning?

Take it easy,
