Living Vicariously Through My Children + Cirque Du Soleil Worlds Away Review

Look, I know it’s very non-PC to try to live through your children. But frankly, they’ve got to come in handy for something.
I’d like my kids to fulfill a few of my fantasies, is that too much to ask, kids?
So I keep telling Dexbox he has two career choices: vet in Africa or trapeze artist.
It’s too late for me to study vet science (or I’m too lazy) and I’m too old and stiff for the circus. But Dexbox is lithe and loves tumbling. Come on son, do it for your mum.

With his future career in mind, I took Dex to the movies to see ‘Cirque Du Soleil Worlds Apart,’ and we also took some home made popcorn and the twinnies.
The movie is in 3D and I’m here to tell you, it’s amazing.
And, shhhhh…. I think I’d rather see the movie than see the live Cirque Du Soleil shows…. shhhh….
Thing is, you feel closer to the action in the movie, plus there’s lot of slow motion footage, so you see the amazing feats of the performers in a way that real life can’t show.

The film shows many of the shows put on by Cirque du Soleil around the world, with a fairly thin narrative holding them together; a love story of a young girl searching for the aerialist she’s fallen in love with.
For myself, I love the combination of the ethereal and macabre in the Cirque du Soleil shows. I revel in the costumes and the amazing aerial ballet pieces. Love that we see all sorts of shapes and sizes of bodies.

Dexbox too really enjoyed seeing this movie.
The twins, who are almost 7, didn’t enjoy it so much. There was much whispering and rustling and rummaging in bags from them.
This surprised me, and I must say that there were many other much-better-behaved children in the cinema.
They said they wanted a story, and they squirmed and wriggled. Annoying!
In fact, there is no dialogue in the whole film… who needs it when amazing spectacle follows amazing spectacle?

Dexbox loved the show, I think it’s probably a matter of weeks before he runs away with the circus.
And we watched David Attenborough’s ‘Africa’ doco that night. So the ‘vet in Africa’ scenario is looking good too!
Do you have your children’s careers all lined up?
To fulfill your own tarnished ambitions?
Or is it only me?

Disclaimer: Paramount Pictures sent us two free tickets to the movie. I paid for the twins to attend… we brought our own popcorn!
