Off To Darwin for an Autism Info Day
Just a quick hello and goodbye from me today. I am flying up to Darwin with a group from the charity Autism Awareness to speak at tomorrow’s Autism Info Day.
Aussie Helpers Children’s Fund has been sponsoring Autism Info Days in regional centres. People really appreciate a day of talking and sharing, and the Autism Awareness team always focuses on really practical support.
Plus it’s totally free… and not much is when you have a child with ASD!
I’m part of a panel talking about:
- Understanding Autism- Fact, fiction, fantasy
- ‘Stim’ulus Package- Understanding your funding entitlements
There are other great sessions:
- Tech Heads- Using technology and online programs to service rural and regional areas
- Behaviour Saviours- Keys for successful parenting, case studies and stories from the frontline
- Tears, Toilets and Tantrums – Practical strategies for managing your child at home
Autism Awareness is the charity which this year lit the Opera House blue for the UN’s World Autism Day.
Autism Awareness has also produced the film ‘What Are You Doing?’ for school students aged 8-12. The film explains ASD through the eyes of siblings, encouraging youngsters to accept and understand the children who are in class with them.
My 11 year old son, Able, is coming along with me, hooray for Qantas air miles. We’ll be camping in Kakadu on Sunday night, then back home on Tuesday. Mind you, he keeps telling people he’s off to Kathmandu.
