Sydney School Holidays – 9 Ideas For Things To DoHello Sydney Kids

Just throwing out a few more suggestions for things to do these school holidays, just in case you’re running out of notions.

Here are some of our faves:

Cockatoo Island

There’s always something on for families over on Cockatoo Island, check out our post here.  Comedy and theatre shows are an extra layer of fun and often on in school holidays.

Visit the Seahorses at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium

Seahorses live in Sydney Harbour, did you know?  I did ‘cos I have seen them there whilst scuba diving many moons ago. A totally unforgettable dive, I love seahorses madly.

And now seahorses also have a home at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium in this exhibit.

There are seven new seahorse displays full of beautiful seahorses and their companions, the razorfish, pipefish and, my favourite, the weedy sea dragons.

Some seahorse species are endangered, and SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium has  bred white seahorse onsite  and released them onto nets at Manly Cove in an effort to boost wild population numbers.

Children will love learning lots about seahorses at this exhibit. And so will I!

Weedy Seadragons – how cool is that name?

Lets have another seahorse photo just because they’re beautiful.

Centennial Parklands Has Its Own App

If you’re planning a trip to Centennial Parklands in Sydney’s East, start by checking out the MyParklands App, currently only available for iPhone and priced at $0.99.

There’s so much to do at the park, we love the playground and cafe and the duck ponds, and one day we must ride horses there.

Read more about the app on the App Store here.

Explore Chinatown

For a more urban experience, how about exploring Chinatown? Children will love this once they’re old enough to enjoy feeling immersed in a different culture.

There’s also an app which can help here, the Haymarket Walking Tour. It’s available for the iPhone and for Android on the Google Play and it’s free.

Explore the area, eat some great Asian food and then round off the day with a play at the fantastic water playground at Darling Quarter.

Pick Your Own Fruit at Pine Crest Orchard

Pine Crest Orchard is on Bells Line of Road in Bilpin, you can pick all sorts of fruit there, a great way to escape the city and stock up on the freshest of fresh fruit whilst you’re at it.

Check out the website here.  Open all Easter weekend.

Check out the gorgeous photos on the Facebook page here.

I haven’t taken the kids here – yet!! We have loved picking strawberries in Scotland and I am sure they’d love it. It’s on my list.

Tennis Camps At Your Local Club

We’ve found these can be a really great option for school aged children. Most suburban tennis clubs run holiday programs and they’re often very cheap compared to other options, plus of course the kids are running around in the fresh air. My twins have sometimes joined their school friends at their local club and it’s worked out really well.

Especially for me.

Find your local tennis courts and club here.

Check Out Your Local Council

Most local councils run all sorts of school holiday activities, I’ve just been looking at what Parramatta Council has on offer and it’s really impressive; bowling, scrapbooking, rock climbing and a night nature walk are just a few activities available.

Check out Parramatta Council’s options here.

Or you could just make life easy for yourself and decide to go straight to Blaxland Riverside Park playground!
