The Scenic Walkway at Katoomba's Scenic World – A Family-Friendly Walk In The Blue Mountains

On a sunny Sunday recently, the twin terrors and I headed up for a day trip to the beautiful Blue Mountains. As you can see above, they were dead keen to see the views from busy Echo Point.

The Three Sisters were looking lovely, and the views stretched out for miles. Stunning.

A $2 coin gave the kids fantastic views through these binoculars across to the Three Sisters, where they were delighted to see people walking around.
We were heading off for a much more child-friendly walk though, over to Scenic World, to explore the Scenic Walkway.

The Scenic Walkway
This is an elevated boardwalk, that runs through the amazing rainforest deep on the Jamison Valley.
It’s actually the longest raised boardwalk in Australia.
The boardwalk runs for a total of 2.4km, so it can make a decent walk for kids. The great thing is that we can explore this sensitive ecosystem, with minimal human impact.

There are ways to walk further on the bush tracks into the national park itself too, but we didn’t do that this day.
The Scenic Railway is part of Scenic World, you can use either the Scenic Railway or the Scenic Cableway (pix coming soon) to get down to the floor of Jamison Valley.

My twinnies are seven and are starting to read quite well. They loved the information boards and did well at reading most of the words on their own, but needed extra explanations from me.

A couple of fallen trees were much admired.
Plenty of opportunities to run and swing and jump…
‘What are all those people doing, Mum?’
‘Looking at the entrance to one of the old coal mines, kids.’
The beautiful bronze statue of a miner and his pit pony was given due reverence. Go Manly!
I could have walked all day… it’s been far too long since we did any serious bush walking.
But today was all about Scenic World…. well, with one quick stop afterwards before the drive back to Sydney.
It’d be silly NOT to stop here, wouldn’t it?
But I’ll leave you with a couple of gorgeous shots, not taken by me, sadly. Thanks to Scenic World for letting me use these and a couple of other gorgeous photos.
The Blue Mountains is an easy (on a sunny Sunday) two hour drive from where we live in the northern part of Sydney. It’s quite feasible as a longish day trip.
Do you love the Blue Mountains?
Can you recommend a family-friendly place to stay?
Other great walks with kids there?
Happy travelling.
