What's On For Kids In Sydney This Week: 17th – 24th March

I’m just listing a few things this week as I bet lots of families are planning a quiet one before heading away for Easter.  Earth Hour is great for enjoying a bit of a quiet time.

Are you going away over Easter? Where to? Do share in the comments of this post.

But if you do find yourself in need of things to do this weekend, there’s certainly a great choice of events. Enjoy!

Earth Hour 2016

When: Saturday 19th March 2016 from 8.30pm – 9.30pm

Cost: It saves you money!

Join  7,000,000 million Aussies and 7000 towns and cities across 172 countries in switching off all your electricity.

Now in it’s 10th year, Earth Hour is the world’s largest grassroots environmental movement. It’s symbolic, but symbols are important.

Ideas: light candles and sit inside or outside and chatter with the kids, play hide and seek in the dark, have a candle light picnic.

There’s a Twilight Picnic and Food market at Randwick Environment Park and Yoga and Drumming at Manly Beach. Find more information and many other Earth Hour events  on the Events page of the website.

Meet lots of wildlife and some interesting people too, like Costa Georgiadis from TV’s Gardening Australia and Martyn Robinson, naturalist from the Australian Museum. There are food stalls and activities for kids, all alongside the excellent Willoughby Park playground and bike track.

“The Fauna Fair is a pet friendly event. Bring your dog on a lead for free dog obedience lessons, or a microchip check, and visit the local vet stall for free canine care advice or talk to the Cat Protection Society about how to enjoy having a cat and wildlife too.”

Biennale of Sydney

When:  Friday 18th March – 5th June 2016

Where: Seven venues across Sydney, we recommend Cockatoo Island as your first port of call, click the name to find details on how to get there.

Cost: Free

So much art to see around Sydney! The website is very detailed and can help you make sense of what is on. Surprisingly there’s no section of the site focussing on kids, though there is an education section.

“The Asia Pacific region’s largest contemporary visual arts event features 83 artists hailing from 35 countries and is presented free to the public across seven venues or ‘Embassies of Thought’ and multiple ‘in-between spaces’ around the inner city, from Friday 18 March until 5 June 2016. The exhibition is supplemented by a comprehensive schedule of public programs including daily guided tours, artist and curator-led talks, lectures, workshops, salons, reading groups and gatherings.”
