Beach House Makeover – A Trip To Ikea

Now then, which light would look best in a high cathedral ceiling, with the wood all painted white?

How about this bedside light in a completely white wood panelled room? Too white?

These are the questions currently doing my very unstylish head in?

If you’ve read my post called A Beach House Restyle – Help!  you’ll know that we have a huge job on getting our Jervis bay house ready for rental… and that I’m seriously style-challenged.

Luckily, my good friend Kate Broadhurst, who styled her own very gorgeous Huskisson Bed and Breakfast has been helping me a lot.

Look at Kate’s beautiful bedrooms at her B+B.

Now our beach house will look very different as there are bright yellow doors and kitchen bench tops, plus a very blue carpet on the mezzanine level.

So Kate’s advice to her novice pal is: ‘All white walls and ceiling and then accents in bold primary colours.’

Kate drove up to Sydney and dragged me joined me on a trip to Ikea and here are some of our purchases and rejections.

‘Perfect’ said Kate, so I bought two of the bog salad bowls and 12 of the little bowls.

Ideal on one of the walls near the front door.

Shoe racks would be so handy by the front door, I think. Hey, the mirror could go above.

Not yellow enough

This is the one we need!

Beach towels bought and ready to get wet.

‘Buy six of these,’ said Kate.

If we were redoing the kitchen, it’d look like this. We’d love to… but not this year.

Perfect for kitchen and bathroom

So cute, the little yellow napkin holder is ideal.

I’m also lusting after these gorgeously fluffy towels, from Ecodownunder not Ikea though.

Now, I am serious… which of these lights should I go back and buy… I’ll need three actually…

Imagine dusting that first one!!

The painters will start on the house soon. It’s a really big job – huge. They will be painting the whole interior, ceiling and all, in Antique White USA. Gulp!

Are you stylish? Any top tips for a novice?

Cheers
