Camping at Narrabeen – A Sydney Family Staycation
Do you ever feel you’d love to get away for a night or two but you can’t be bothered driving too far?
You need to get out of the house, have a change of scene, feel a different breeze on your face.
My preference would be a stay in a five star hotel in the city. But that’s theoretical when I’ve got the kids to wrangle.
Yes! Reading the paper – my dreams are all realised!
A simple Sydney family staycation is the answer, and we can recommend a camping trip to Narrabeen.
Cheap and cheerful and super child-friendly, there are powered and ensuite sites available at the campsite which is properly called the NRMA Sydney Lakeside Holiday Park.
There are also units and cabins available which I must pop down to check up on one day.
The beauty of this holiday park is how close to the lagoon and beach it is. If your family are water safe then it’s a fabulous place to stay.
If you can’t trust the kids around water then ask to camp as far away from the lagoon as possible and don’t let them out of your sight… or site.
The water playground onsite was also a huge hit with my kids. And the weather wasn’t even too warm when we stayed.
I went with a school mum friend and her son. Another friend and kids came to visit one day and the children all ran themselves totally ragged.
And then they’d sit down and eat whatever we put in front of them!
I’ve written a post about on Narrabeen Rock pool and beach, just a short walk away. That rock pool is one of Sydney’s best – you must visit!.
It’s just across the road and a short walk from the camping site.
There are various cafes and restaurants around too, within an easy walk.
We went out one evening planning to get fish and chips. But ended up at the very lovely Oceans Restaurant.
Narrabeen beach has flagged area in summer. It’s a famous surf beach which also means swim between the flags.
We did this as minimalist camping. Very simple, BBQ dinner one night, out for dinner the other. We had a gas cooker to make our cups of tea.
Mind you, on the second night it poured with rain and myself and the twins bailed out, almost literally. Home is only 20 minutes away so we dived home, slept warm and dry. Our friends moved into our tent and we all met up again down there for breakfast the next day.
The kids loved following the ducks around the campsite.
Anyway camping at Narrabeen is fun both for families coming to visit Sydney and for Sydneysiders needing a easy break.
This is the lagoon right by the area we camped. It an excellent play spot for kids… and us grown ups too.
