Eight Aussie Comedians With Big Hearts – The Aspect Comedy Night

There’s nothing like a night of hilarity for a good cause.
The 11th Annual Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) Comedy Night was held on Tuesday and myself and a friend were lucky enough to go along.
It was a top night, great fun for everyone who went along, plus some excellent nosh and interesting chatter around the tables.
And all that does help people open up their hearts and more importantly their wallets and give some money to kids who really need a helping hand.

Aspect is the largest provider of autism services in Australia, and with 1000 pupils in its schools and satellite classes, it’s the largest autism education organisation in the world. Wow – I didn’t know that before the night.
Aspect is large, but the demands upon it are larger… there can be long waiting lists for all its services. That’s no good (I know, we used to be on those waiting lists many years ago.)

I’d like to say a big thank you – as a mum of a son on the spectrum this is a VERY BIG THANK YOU – to the comedians who donated their time for free to make us laugh and to help raise money.
The Sydney comedian Ciel was our MC – thank you Ciel.
Because we all need a laugh, I’m linking in some videos from Youtube from these funny comedians with big hearts.
Rampaging Roy Slaven and HG Nelson
The veteran comedy duo opened the night with their less-than-complimetary notes on the sponsors of the Comedy Night. Absolutely amusing in their daft tongue in cheek humour. John Doyle is the patron of Aspect, he has a sister who has ASD.
Here’s a classic from their Olympics show, The Dream, commentary on the Greco-Roman wrestling.
Claire Hooper
A bit of a sore throat didn’t stop this Good News Week and live stand up stalwart (in a very groovy jersay) making us laugh.
Catch her here with Rove McManus from a few years ago.
Claire Hooper’s website is here and she’s on Facebook here.
Jeff Green
Well known from TV and live appearances, Jeff is an Englishman who’s adopted Australia as his home, Jeff’s fast-talking patter makes your head spin, but we relate completely!
Find Jeff Green on Twitter and Facebook.
Damian Smith
Dark in his humour and his good looks, Damian’s a sharp comedian with his own Aspergian twist. A crowd pleaser on this Comedy Night, of course.
Damian Smith’s website here, and find him on Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.
Neel Kolhatkar
This young comedian is making waves on Youtube and as a stand up. Catch his thoughts on State Of Origin below.
Find Neel on Youtube here, on Facebook here and on Twitter here.
Tom Gleeson
The much-loved and toe-curlingly spot-on comedian closed the show to rapturous applaise. You’ll find out why below. Catch him also on Ten’s This Week Live.
Find Tom Gleeson’s website here, he’s on Facebook here and Youtube here.
Usually having a child with an autism spectrum disaster is no laughing matter. Hold on, that’s not actually true, my son can be hilarious. But lets face it, there are many unfunny moments too.
Anyway, good on these comedians for helping Aspect, and well done all the team for putting on a great comedy night, with a serious purpose.
Looking forward to reading how much money was raised.
Enjoy the videos.
Have you had a belly laugh recently?

Many thanks Aspect for inviting me along. I was really glad to support Aspect with the purchase of many raffle tickets – no wins this time!
