Escape and Explore – Sydney, Bali, Botswana and A Blog
Have you been to Club Med Bali too? My twins and I had a lovely break there last year, and now I’m foaming at the mouth to get back to check out the resort’s latest luxurious improvements.
The adults-only Zen pool has been completed and these photos of it are courtesy of Club Med Bali. I can just picture myself spread out on one of the day beds enjoying the sea views.
Work is now in progress on a Baby Club Med centre (for children from 4 – 24 months), as well as three new children’s facilities, focussing on music, local art and games.
The gorgeous beaches of Nusa Dua are a beautiful backdrop to this family-friendly resort. Like all Club Meds, the resort has a strong emphasis on kids activities- my two just loved the circus arts and acrhery especially. But it’s great to see that the parents can be guaranteed as much relaxation as they can handle whilst the children play.
You can read our family review of the kids clubs at Club Med Bali here.

Three Great Ideas For Sydney
Vivid Sydney is coming up soon. The city will be afire with lights, music and ideas from Friday May 23rd to Monday June 9th. There are literally hundreds of events taking place, see the program on the website and be dazzled.
What I love about Vivid is that there’s so much that doesn’t cost anything at all: the night time light shows are free and completely spectacular. We’ll be making the trek to the city one night for sure.
North Narrabeen as a family holiday destination has been very beautifully described in a long post on the blog Pretraveller, highly recommened. North Narrabeen is a great spot in Sydney, a great escape for visitors, even those from within Sydney itself. Check out all the info here.
Whale Watching season is upon us, and you don’t need to leave Sydney to spot whales. Boats do trips out through the Heads, and you might also spot whales whilst walking along our beautiful coastal trails. We’ve seen whales cavorting int he Harbour and right near the beach at Curl Curl. But this year I do plan to head out to sea as well one day. More info from Parks and Wildlife here.

Chobe Game Lodge Botswana – Africa’s First All-Female Safari Guiding Team
I first saw a press release about Chobe Game Lodge in Botswana a few weeks ago and was intrigued to hear that they had an all-female guiding team. Then the photos of the guides just made me smile; they look so cheerful and as if they love their jobs.
Since then I’ve been reading about this highly acclaimed game lodge with its magnificent setting by the river and floodplains which attract masses of wildlife. I’ve read too about its eco-tourism credentials and it’s new 200m boardwalk by the Chobe River. Built in 1972, Chobe Game Lodge was famous for hosting the second wedding of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
The Chobe Game Lodge has beautiful photos and video on its website here.
Read about their eco tourism projects here.
Pre-kids, I visited Kenya, Zanzibar in East Africe and Ghana in West Africa but I’ve never been to South Africa or Botswana. Yet!
I’ve started in these Friday Escape + Explore posts a bit of an African family travel bucket list… this lodge now added!

No Impact Girl Travel Blog
Can I recommend a read around the blog No Impact Girl by travel writer and photojournalist Louise Southerden. Louise writes adventure and outdoor travel stories for many outlets and has also written three books. Her blog’s a helpful part of my sustainable tourism learning curve.
And very pertinent to my African plans is her post after a trip to South Africa:
