How To Be A Penniless Author Part 1
Just remember this: the first part is easy!
There’s lots happening here at Smith Towers book-wise. It’s about time I wrote some posts on books and writing.
Many bloggers are so generous sharing their expertise about blogging, so very helpful to we newbies.
It came to me in a blinding flash that I could maybe help others by explaining my experiences in the book biz.
I wrote my first book 12 years ago. The picture above left is of me finding it at the bookshop at Sydney airport. A huge, huge thrill!!
That wasn’t a good look clothes and hair-wise mind you.
So here start some posts, in no logical order, of course…. starting with news of a new book.
Book Commission – Superfoods Index
Jane Curry of Jane Curry Publishing has asked me to write a small book called: ‘The Superfoods Index.‘
I’m delighted as I really love researching useful information and writing it up in my own scintillating style. I also love food, especially eating it!
The topic sits in well with my Mum’s Diet blog, though I suspect that posts on both blogs will be fewer whilst the Superfoods Index is being written.
This is a small book, so won’t be as demanding as writing a huge tome. Plus it’s fun!
It’s a splendid thing to have a publisher ask me to write a book. Jane and I chatted about this when we met recently. She has had a book on the market for a few years called ‘Pocket Detox,‘ it’s been very popular and has sold overseas and she is keen to have another in the same format.
Whilst we nattered I mentioned to her that I’d love to write a little book about positive psychology and happiness so Jane’s thinking about that just now. But first things first….
* the research has started
* I’m waiting for a contract to be sent
* with a small advance!
* have tidied up the room upstairs and made it an office again instead of a junk room
* and have finally bought an external monitor so I can have two screens, really useful for this sort of project

As a child in Scotland, I was a contant reader, and always wanted to write a book.
I didn’t expect to write about Sydney, family, autism and depression though!
Everybody has a book in them.
Are you writing yours?
You’ll LOVE The Big Sick, read all about it here.
