If You Have Lost A Baby, This Book Was Written For You
It’s Red Nose Day and I’d like to tell you about my neighbour Fiona Mann and her book: ‘And On One The Mantelpiece.’
Fiona wrote this book for other parents who, like herself and her husband Phil, have lost a baby.
It is Fiona’s own, very personal story of coming to terms with the loss of her very much wanted and dearly loved first son, Jacob.
Jacob passed away when Fiona was just a few days short of her due date. For Phil and Fiona the shock and grief of having a stillborn baby was overwhelming.
Fiona’s book has many excerpts from the journal she has kept ever since. Fiona and Phil’s struggles to come to terms with their unimaginable loss is told in detail.

Their joys are there too, with three other children born in quick succession.
I know Fiona and Phil and their three children as neighbours, and having read this book I now know them as parents of four. Jacob is very much one of their children.
In her foreword Fiona writes: ‘I would have found a book like this so helpful.” I am sure that any parent who has suffered loss will benefit immensely from reading it.
Today, on Red Nose Day, I am so profoundly grateful that the loss of a baby was something my husband and I have not had to endure. I am very moved by my friend’s hard work and her bravery.

Fiona’s book is a gift from the heart to those mums and dads whose pain she can understand and help soothe in a way most of us cannot.
If you have lost a baby, please do read ‘And One On The Mantelpiece.’ It was written for you.
