Imagine What Happens Next… Bringing back the art of storytelling through imagination

ab3-5961536Here’s my second ever guest post on this blog!  I met Anton recently and loved the idea of his book. 75% of my children love writing stories and one of them is a teller of the most amazing tall tales… which he swears are 100% true.  Here’s to the imaginations of children, and to our role in unleashing their creativity.

Anyway, let me hand over to Anton Buchner.

I’ve only just met Seana, however we connected straight away. Well we must have connected as she has let me write a little story for her blog.

My name is Anton, I’ve got four kids, and am married to the very caring soul, Kalina.  The kids are now 17, 15, 12 and 9 months – Hannah, Thomasina, Toby, & our latest little addition to the clan, Anouk.

ab2-450x600-7507497When the older ones were younger, we used to create imagination stories before bedtime.

I’d ask them for three words, and then weave them into a story.

I wouldn’t just talk AT them, I’d let THEM create characters, describe scenery, and unleash their imagination in every direction.

Some of their regular characters and settings were Swifter the cherry blossom pink unicorn, Grenobie the papier-mache monster, and a forest full of weird and wonderful creatures.

And before long they were asking me for three words to create their very own adventures.

Almost a decade later I thought why not write a book about it and start telling stories in schools, hospitals and online.

And so we created a book called “Imagine What Happens Next…”ab11-396x600-8837915

We aim to help other parents create more meaningful engagement with their children, rather than have them glued to the TV or iPad. It’s time to bring back a bit of storytelling to balance our busy lives.

Here are two examples of the stories, click on the images to see them full size.

We hope you like the concept and are inspired to create your own imagination stories.

It only takes three words to start.

We’d love to hear your tales.

Thank you Anton, great to hear about your book.

Do you tell stories with your children?

What tall tales have they come up with?

Happy story telling
