Improving My Travel Photography – Panoramic Shots

Where better to read about photography than on a flight overseas? I had bought a couple of ebooks from Digital Photography School but had never studied them in detail.
So I’ve been reading up on photography whenever I’ve been on a plane this year.
Click on the photos to see them at double the size.

And semi-hidden in my camera bag, I found the manual for my DSLR… ahah… being away is a golden opportunity to RTFM, don’t you reckon?
I did and learned that my camera has a panorama function.
Here are some of the shots from Bali and at the bottom there are two from Scotland.

The two photos above weren’t taken during the best hours of daylight and I have brightened them up in Photoshop a little. Maybe a bit too much, perhaps I need to tone down the colour a bit.

This one is the same beach. It’s terrific at high tide, not so scenic at low tide though. This beach is right in front of the lawns and bar in the top shot.
Yes, it is a wee bit of heaven, isn’t it?

This is a moody shot taken in the afternoon on a very grey day and with no enhancements. There’s a well-known surf break in front of Club Med Bali and you can see a surfer paddling out on the extreme left.
This is a playground in Nairn, where my younger sister lives. It’s in a beautiful spot right by the beach with a cafe right beside it. But bring a scarf… and raincoat and hat and gloves.
This is the beach at another Scottish seaside town called North Berwick. It’s a famous holiday town, but looking rather dour here at low tide.
I like this look though. You can see the large children’s paddling pool and the golden sand is such a contrast to the grey rocks. The hill behind is called North Berwick Law and it’s an ancient volcanic plug.
Have you taken panoramic shots?
Any top tips for the beginner?
Myself and my two young twins stayed as guests of Club Med Bali – many thanks Club Med! We travelled to Scotland at our own expense, and stayed with my mum and sisters whilst there – thanks to them too!
