Letting go when feeling sick – the dreaded lurgy
So we have been sick.
We have been so sick.
Over the school holidays and until now, 50% of this family of six have had the dreaded lurgy.
Mr9 coughed terribly for three days and then was over it. Ms9 and myself have been coughing for almost two weeks and are still not over it.
And the thing is… it’s not too bad.
It’s forced us to slow down completely, and since we’re in such a period of transition here at Casa Chaos, that’s no bad thing.
Our ex-International Man of Mystery is now our Domestic Man of Familiarity.
The FIFO lifstyle is over, thank F@!*.
The first week of it was rough as kids had to be got back to school. Paul had just recently started his new job in the centre of Sydney and had to focus on that. It was hard to get even the basics done.
Last weekend and this week, we’ve got into a slow routine.
Get things done then lie in bed.
Make some pea soup and lie down.
Bake a cake then go back to bed, electric blanket on.
Do some washing, go to the shops then lie and read.
Get to the dentist then back to bed for an hour before pickup.
A bit of surrender has gone a long way. So have three trips to the doctor and two types of antibiotics in my case.
Remembering that free six month membership of Netflix has also been excellent. Who knew there was so much great TV to watch?
Myself and the twins are also now addicted to ‘The Voice.’
And it’s been good.
There’s a lot to be said for slowing down and simplifying.
Not sure I’ll ever pick up speed again.
Ginger, honey and lemon and some time in a warm bed.
If you’ve been sick too, I hope you can slow down and really look after yourself.
I know it’s almost impossible when kids are younger.
Take care of yourself xxx
