Macquarie Flyer Home Loan – Where Can My Mortgage Fly Me To?
Have mortgage, will travel. I know that sounds counter-intuitive, we often think that once we’ve got a mortgage the holidays are over for a while.
But for most Australian home owners, that’s just not true. Home owners take more holidays than renters.
Weird but true fact.
I learned a heap of new info about both mortgages and Qantas Frequent Flyer Points at an information session at Maquarie Bank in the city last week.
Macquarie are rolling out a new Macquarie Bank Flyer Home Loans. Have you seen the TV adverts for them yet?
Of course what I was keen to hear about was…. where can you travel too with the QFF Points you accrue??
NB To get the month points your loan must remain at or above 150,000.
The average loan in Australia is for about $350,000. The initial batch of QFF points for a $350,000 would be 35,000.

But wait three years and you could accumulate a total of 96,000 points which will take you to:
Yes, I Do Love My QFF Points
I’ve recently booked a flight to Melbourne using points. I’m going down on Saturday 16th November to walk/hobble jog the City to Sea on Sunday 17th.
That trip is thanks to Planning With Kids as I won the City to Sea ticket on a competition on that blog.
To me, flights using points feel free… and who doesn’t love a free trip?
But there’s a lot more to frequent flyer points than I had realised.
Learn More About Your Qantas FF Points
At the talk at Macquarie Bank we heard from Clifford Reichlin, owner of the Australian Frequent Flyer website. This is the place to go if you really want to understand everything about QFF. Clifford assures us that our QFF points are not free.
But they do feel free, at least to me.
There’s another FF blog called The Frequent Flyer which I found recently. Check that one out to if you want to really get to grips with maximising your flying on points.
My brain is still buzzing.
Realistically most of us collect QFF points in many ways. In our family we use our credit card to pay for everything we possibly can, and we earn heaps of QFF that way.
It makes sense to also earn some from one biggest financial outgoing too, and that’s the family mortgage. It would certainly be a big boost to the QFF points balance.
Of course when you fly with a big family, it’s rare to have enough points to cover all the costs.
But then we don’t always need to take our children on holiday with us, do we?
Are you a frequent flyer?
Do you collect and use points to fly or for other purchases?
Happy mortgage hunting – and paying!
