Mistakes Made in Melbourne 1989 Version
Ah, I’ve just walked past the hotel on Exhibition Street in Melbourne where I resigned from my first TV job.
Which turned out to be the best job I ever had.
Which is all highly reminiscent of the first boyfriend I ever had, who was, it turned out, the best boyfriend ever.
But like with the first job, it’s your first, you know nothing.
Anyway, sometime in 1989 I sat in that hotel lobby with Gary Burns and had a drink and told him I was resigning from my job as a segment producer on ‘The Midday Show With Ray Martin.’ What an idiot!
Ray was hands-down the best TV presenter I ever worked with, and there were a few. He taught me a huge amount. Still using the knowledge, still grateful.
So I walked past, and smiled. Regrets? Not really.
I was young, foolish, a bit of an emotional mess, couldn’t stay still, couldn’t commit, needed to move on, get away.
And that was then. This is now and I did grow up emotionally, belatedly. Grateful for that. It wasn’t a given.
And about that first boyfriend. Well, there’s been a lot of blood under the bridge. Not good life partner material for me.
Current partner running at almost 17 years and four children. I think I’m nearly over the first one now.
Regrets? Do you have a few? Or not?
Have you made many mistakes in Melbourne?
