Mother Love Best Parenting Books For New Mums

This is a terrific new book for new mums and dads and yes, I am biased.

The author, Dr Melanie Strang, and I have corresponded over the past few years.

Melanie gave us some lovely quotes for Beyond The Baby Blues, and I am a contributor (in a tiny way ) to this book.

You see, there just aren’t enough books on the realities of motherhood, and on the massive emotional transition we undertake as we are reborn, from person to parent.

Here’s a wee video – just a minute and a bit – with me waxing lyrical.

Some of the Mother Love chapter headings include:

  • Realictic expectations
  • Acknowleding the losses
  • Priorities
  • Mental health awarensss
  • Getting rid of irrational thoughts and being a good enough mum

I read through the whole book, making notes and marks all the way through.  After 16 years of motherhood, I still relate to so much of this book and so wish I had read it as a new mum.

You can buy Mother Love from the publishers website here.

Some quotes I loved from Mother Love

I do agree with the quote above. I lost so much precious freedom when my first son was born, but didn’t realise how much I grieved that.

So true… with my first child, all we did in antenatal class was prepare for the birth! How daft.

With the twins, we did twins-specifoc ante natal classes and spent weeks discussing how we’d manage after the twins were born, so much more helpful.

Oh me too! Me totally too!!!

I’ve been both a breast and a bottle feeding mother and both had their ups and downs.  I just support mums and dads. That is all and it’s that simple.

You can find out more about Dr Melanie Strang at her website Well Mum, Well Baby.

This book really would make a great present for parents-to-be.

Congratulations Melanie and well done Ventura Press too.

Were you prepared for the emotional upheavals of parenthood?
