Newport Beach + Rock Pool on Sydney's Northern Beaches

We popped down to Newport Beach after a visit to The Newport (Arms, as was) recently.

The kids hadn’t wanted to sit still and enjoy the Newport’s views after we ate so I brought them down here to run around. Happy twins. Happy mum too.

Newport Beach

Newport is a beach well known to surfers, there are two famous breaks that attract surfers from near and far.  The beach is about 1.3km long and faces due east.

NB that’s twice as long as Bilgola and Avalon beaches further north, so better for a walk,

Take a trek down to the south end of the beach where there’s a famous rock pool. Max Dupain, the famous Aussie beach photographer took many iconic shots here during the 1930s – 1950s. There’s also a flat rock platform here which is fun to explore so long as the sea isn’t too rough.

You can also find a car parking spot in the road closer to the south end, we’ve never done this ourselves but will try next time. See map.

Cafes: Just across Pittwater Road at the Newport shops.

Toilets: Toilet, change and shower block by the carpark, disabled bathroom there too.  Toilets and changing room also down at the south end near the rock pool.

Shade: Trees provide shade on the small reserve.

Playground: Small, fenced new playground at the front of the SLSC.

Mum’s report: More laid back than most beaches around here, quieter and has good surf.

Extra:  The Newport gastro pub is just a short drive away, so a visit there and to the beach makes a good day out.
