One of our very favourite Northern Beaches cafes right on the beach. I love lingering in cafes at the best of times, this one is especially enjoyable because of the gorgeous views.

The Collaroy Hotel has been completely revamped and as part of that, the old Deck cafe has been done up and relaunched as the Pelican Pavilion.

The cafe is an enclosed deck on the sand, to the north of the hotel, park in the large car park there and you’ll find the cafe at the south end of the car park.

It retains of course, its magnificent position on the sand of Collaroy Beach with spectacular views north and south and far out into the ocean. The views to the north are truly wonderful, guaranteed to feed the soul whilst the cafe feeds the tummy.

This cafe really does have a lovely atmosphere and serves full breakfasts, snacks and light and more substantial lunches.

Children are made very welcome with a children’s menu and all the delights of being right on the beach. There are baskets of sand toys by the cafe so the littlies can play as you dine – if you have that sort of non-runaway child.

The flags are generally not close to the cafe, so children cannot paddle or swim within view.

The Deck can be very. very busy, especially with Sunday brunchers, quite a few kids and lots of younger and older people too. But during the week it’s often more quiet and there’s more space for strollers etc

Myself and a teen had lunch there and I thought the new menu was solid, but pretty unadventurous. We both scoffed large burgers – mine traditional, his pulled pork – with gusto.  You can find the menu on the website.
