The Maths of Motherhood + A Young Man Turns 19

OMG, that’s a lot of mothering!

Happy birthday to our beloved oldest son, who was born 19 years ago today!
And happy mother-birthday to me to. I was reborn that day to.
I don’t write much about our biggest lad, to be honest he is having a lot of ups and downs these days which is not for public consumption.
But let me tell you some of the good stuff, the stuff that is public.
Since he left school last year Teen19 has been busking a lot around Central Station, especially in the tunnel under Central. He plays guitar and loves heavy metal music. So if you’re a KISS or Iron Maiden fan, get over there to see him and chuck a few coins onto his pile.
He actually makes OK money at busking. Teen19 is also studying music at TAFE, so it’s all noise and more noise at our house.

So thrilled that he’s following his dreams and hugely enjoying what he does.
He runs his Musician Facebook page here.

And now, for the Maths of Motherhood.
I counted up my total mothering years and find there are now 53 years of mothering when I add all the kids ages up. That’s a lot of years, it’s more than my age. Now wonder I feel exhausted!
Surely I know a few things by now?
Actually I do! I’m becoming an expert at not getting into arguments with teenagers and tweens, now that’s an invaluable life skill!
And a final thank you
Thank you to that lovely anaesthetist who gave me an epidural 19 years ago and saved my life – or so it felt.
Still grateful all these years later… it’s a LIE that you forget the pain of childbirth!
Have you calculated the maths of your own motherhood?
Can you avoid the bickering of your kids and move on?
Happy birthday son, here’s to the next 19 years!
Take it easy
