The Playground at The Australian Botanic Garden, Mt Annan – Great Spot For Kids

I can’t believe we’ve not yet visited the Botanic Gardens at Mt Annan, it must be done!  In the meantime, please enjoy this post by Averil Cutroni, who knows the Gardens well and loves the very good playground there. Enjoy!

This awesome playground is set amongst the beautiful Botanic Garden at Mt Annan.

This is one of our favourite playgrounds as it suits all three of our kids, aged six, four and two.

Within the fully fenced play space there’s a section for the smaller ones with a short slide and a see saw, a sand pit complete with little buckets on pulleys that my 4 year old son just loves, two sets of swings, a timber and rope bridge and an awesome flying fox. The playground has rubber soft fall in some areas and bark in others.

There are a couple of picnic tables and benches inside the fence and a grassed area for picnic rugs or kicking a ball. There’s plenty of lawn around the playground also.

Across the small road is the newest section of the Botanic Garden, it is stunning to wander through. The kids love running around in “the jungle”, while Mum and Dad can admire the beautiful gardens. We’ve been lucky enough to spot some big lizards lounging on the rocks in the sun. This section is very popular for wedding photos- no wonder, it really is very pretty.

Nearest takeaway coffee: Beside the playground is a lovely little café called Melaleuca House. They also sell ice blocks and ice creams which are a very welcome treat on a hot day!     http://melaleucahouse.com.au/

Toilets: Yes, located in the car park

Shade: There are some shade sails and trees in some sections of the playground.

Enclosed: Yes

Mum’s Report: This is a fantastic place to spend the day, there’s plenty to see and do. On a summer’s day some of the play equipment can get quite hot. It can be quite busy in good weather meaning a longer queue for the flying fox!

Extra: There’s a 10 km long mountain bike track some distance away, which would be great for teens and adults. The gardens cover 416 hectares and have many feature gardens and sculptures throughout so it’s well worth a drive around for a look.

Parking: Yes, plenty of free parking nearby
