The Italian, Willoughby – Mini Pizza Chefs Afternoons

We’re always keen for a pizza and all too often they come from one not-very-authentic Hut.

So an invite to visit the The Italian Bar Pizza on Willoughby’s High Street was RSVP-ed in double quick time.

The Italian Bar Pizza is a bright and open trattoria, set in the midst of the High Street foodie hub.

The Thursday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon Mini Pizza Chef classes were a hit with my twins for sure. And it was a joy for me to meet the young Italian pizza chef Ivano La Placa.

These seem not to be running any more… but we highly recommend this excellent trattoria!

I lived in Italy for a year when I was 18 and am always thrilled to hear the lingo and smell the smells.

The long bar and the open kitchen with its wood-fired pizza oven really do take me back there.

Meanwhile the twins are getting stuck into making the pizza.

The kids are amazed when Ivano whirls his pizza base around in the air!

Ivano helps the kids to slide the paddle under the pizzas and slip them into the blazing oven.

Then it only takes three minutes for the pizza to be cooked through – astounding.

Meanwhile I was enjoying a lovely glass of prosecco. Perfect Sunday afternoon activity!

Mini Pizza Chef Afternoons

Priced at $45, the two hour class includes: making and kneading dough, creating (and eating!) a mini pizza, plus a pasta or salad and a gelato.

All children between 6 and 12 years old are welcome, either by themselves or in a group.

The pizza making classes make a wonderful birthday party for kids aged 6 – 12 years.

My two are quite sparing in their topping. We all loved the thick airy crusts.

Ham and pineapple for Rusty Rocket.

Of course, the adults would be mad not to have a meal too. That’s the menu above.

The Italian Bar Pizza is a real taste of Italy, but in Willoughby.

It’s very family-friendly on any day of the week. This is a great spot to have a family meal after a visit to Willoughby Park’s excellent playground.

Wizzy World Play Centre is also close, and Hallstrom Park’s playground is only a short drive away.

So there are plenty of options for physical activity followed by a family meal all close together in Willoughby.

Many thanks to The Italian Bar Pizza for hosting myself and the twins. We’ll be back with the big brothers and dad very soon.
